Fluidized sand beds/boiler sand

Fluidiserande bäddsand pannsand

Rådasand sand is used in fluidized sand beds, also known as boiler sand, at thermal power plants and CHP plants in their fluidizing or bubbling sand beds in order to generate power and district heating from waste.

The sand’s unique composition of feldspar and quartz, roughly 80% quartz and 20% feldspar, combines their characteristics. Quartz has high sintering temperature (melting point) of approximately 1200°C and expands considerably when heated. Feldspar has a lower sintering temperature and a lower expansion factor. This is a major advantage as it is important that the sand core expands as little as possible and yet not melt when it is heated or comes in contact with heat.

The sand can also be used at thermal power plants to clear flue gas and as fluidized filter sand in aquaculture or larger aquariums.
